FAQ

About Vmware.com Payment Method?

The payment methods available on Vmware.com are determined by the user's billing account. The options include funds, credit cards, or an unrestricted Pay by Invoice account.

To use VMware funds to cover costs, they must be linked to the user's organization and one of them set as the default payment method. These funds can be used across all the user's organizations if they are within the VMware Entitlement account associated with VMware Cloud services, and in the same currency used by the organization.

Credit cards can be used to pay for services unless there are limitations for the user's country. If the payment currency of the organization is different than the card currency, foreign transaction fees might be incurred from the credit card provider. The supported credit cards include personal or corporate Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Discover, JCB, Diners Club credit cards, and also Mastercard, Visa, or American Express debit cards.

A Pay by Invoice (PBI) account can be used as a payment method during service onboarding if a sales order for a new service is associated with it. However, this PBI payment method is restricted and can only be applied to the subscriptions included in the sales order but cannot be added as a default payment method to the organization. To use a PBI account as the default payment method to cover any purchases, resources, and overages accrued by the organization, unrestricted PBI must be activated for payment authorization for all services in the organization. This involves an offline approval process initiated by submitting a support request.

Multiple payment methods can be added to the organization, but only one of them can be set as the default payment method. When signing up for VMware Cloud services, the payment method added becomes the default payment method for the organization and can be used by all Organization Owner users within the organization. The default payment method will apply to all purchases, resources, and overages in the organization unless a different payment method is specified for the purchase. The address of the organization determines the currency in which the services are paid for. The sales order can determine a different payment method for the subscription or term commitment which applies only to that specific purchase. The payment method for a subscription can be changed later.

It simplifies infrastructure management by extending existing skills, tools, and processes from on-premises and using integrated, single point of management control for VMs and containers in the cloud and on-premises. It offers a lower TCO compared to on-premises and public cloud alternatives with unique resource optimization options, integrated enterprise capabilities, and capitalizing on existing investments in skills, tools, and processes. It's a jointly engineered solution that extends on-premises vSphere environments to a VMware SDDC running on Amazon EC2 elastic, bare-metal infrastructure. It's the fastest path to hybrid cloud, delivering a unified infrastructure that bridges the gap between private and public clouds. It's an integrated cloud offering jointly developed by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and VMware. FAQ

How can I get started with VMware products?

To get started with VMware products, it's important to understand that VMware offers a variety of solutions for different needs. Harness the power of multi-cloud to accelerate innovation and transform the way you do business. Whether you need help with modern apps, cloud, remote work, or security, VMware has resources to get started.

There are several paths to explore:

  1. Build New Apps & Modernize Existing Apps: Build, run, and manage your apps across any cloud with consistent, scalable container operations. Boost the speed of modern app delivery and achieve full-stack observability across clouds.

  2. Enable Employees to Work Anywhere: Put employees first with a pre-integrated Anywhere Workspace solution that delivers secure and seamless experiences while reducing costs and operational overhead.

  3. Simplify Apps & Multi-Cloud Operations: Transform your cloud infrastructure and run enterprise applications at scale. VMware solutions include support for all infrastructures and enable unified cloud management and operations.

  4. Ensure Security Across Your Infrastructure: Get connected security that spans multiple clouds, modernize your SOC, and ensure visibility across an increasingly distributed infrastructure.

For those who are completely new to VMware, vSphere is probably what you'll come across first. vSphere is not a product per se but a suite comprising the ESXi hypervisor, where virtual machines are hosted, and vCenter Server - the management software that brings together a number of ESXi hosts and enables advanced features such as clustering, HA, and distributed shared storage. The vSphere suite is also complemented by a number of tools, APIs, and plugins.

To start learning about VMware, it's recommended to experiment with the software. This can be done by building a home lab or upgrading your home PC. This allows you to run one ESXi host and vCenter Server as VMs using desktop virtualization software such as Oracle’s VirtualBox or VMware Workstation.

Remember, learning is a journey and it requires time and dedication. Good luck on your VMware journey!
